Operation Smile 2011

Operation Smile is a private, not-for-profit volunteer medical services organization and worldwide children’s medical charity headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia that provides reconstructive surgery and related health care to indigent children and young adults. Medical volunteers repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other childhood facial deformities while building public and private partnerships to provide training to health care professionals and improve local capacity in partner countries.


"Operation Smile: Free Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate Surgery", a four (4) day activity started on June 7 until June 11, 2011, was conducted in Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

The said activity was in partnership with 6th Infantry "Kampilan" Division Philippine Army, Joint Special Operations Task Force-Mindanao of the US Army, Plastic Surgeons and Anesthesiologists and Local Government Units of Central Mindanao, Manila and Davao.

JCI Cotabato also supported Operation Smile by providing the team with volunteer nurses.

Patients were gathered from different areas of Maguindanao. They were housed in the 6th ID barracks.

Thereafter, JCI Cotabato members had photo ops and a chance to meet the U.S. Navy Capt. Robert V. Gusentine, Commander of Joint Special Operations Task Force Philippine.


MBLT-7 23rd Activation Day

The Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT) - 7 celebrated its 23rd activation day last year on June 7, 2011 at nine (9) 0'clock in the morning in lieu of its actual anniversary on June 1 at MBLT-7 Headquarters, Padlan Compound, Rosary Heights, Cotabato City.

The activity was highlighted by the pinning of ranks for the newly promoted officers and enlisted personnel, awarding of the Marine Company "K" Awards, turn-over ceremony of two (2) marine companies under the said unit and awarding of organizations and individuals who were instrumental for the accomplishment of the said unit's mandated mission. Their guest of honor was Major General Rustico O. Guerreo, AFP, Commandant of Philippine Marine Corp who gave a short inspirational message.

JCI Cotabato, under my leadership during that time, was also invited as their honored guests and one of the awardees of the said unit in their grateful recognition of our invaluable support and commitment to the accomplishment of their noble quest for the people of Cotabato City.

Delivering the welcome remarks in the picture below was Major Medel S. Oropesa PN(M), executive officer of MBLT-7.

Relief and Assumption of Command.

A short message and introduction of the Guest of Honor was given by Lt. Col. Doroteo Jose M. Jalandoni PN(M)(GSC), Commanding Officer of MBLT-7.

Major General Rustico O. Guerrero, Commandant, Philippine Marine Corp, delivering his short message.

And finally, the giving of the Memento to the Commandant of the Philippine Marine Corp by the Commanding Officer of MBLT-7.

The program ended with the singing of the marine hymn by Cpl. Siverio  C. Husain, Jr. PN(M) and a small "salo-salo" thereafter.

JCI Cotabato Chapter supported and participated in the BRIGADA ESKWELA (National Schools Maintenance Week) project of Parang Maguindanao local government units  together with other agencies through the initiative of Mayor Ibrahim Ibay, at Macarimbang-Alegado Memorial Elementary School, Parang Maguindanao last May 31, 2011.

The said activity was made successful by the joint effort of  PNP-ARMM, 37th IB Philippine Army, Parents-Teachers Association, DepEd Maguindanao, IRA 511, IDC, ICC, Barangay government of Magsaysay and the LGU of Parang Maguindanao. Brigada Eskwela includes repainting of the classrooms, grass cutting and school general cleaning.





JCI Cotabato contributed ten (10) pieces stick broom for the school's maintenance and also joined in the repainting of the classrooms.
