Operation Smile 2011

Operation Smile is a private, not-for-profit volunteer medical services organization and worldwide children’s medical charity headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia that provides reconstructive surgery and related health care to indigent children and young adults. Medical volunteers repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other childhood facial deformities while building public and private partnerships to provide training to health care professionals and improve local capacity in partner countries.

"Operation Smile: Free Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate Surgery", a four (4) day activity started on June 7 until June 11, 2011, was conducted in Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

The said activity was in partnership with 6th Infantry "Kampilan" Division Philippine Army, Joint Special Operations Task Force-Mindanao of the US Army, Plastic Surgeons and Anesthesiologists and Local Government Units of Central Mindanao, Manila and Davao.

Patients were gathered from different areas of Maguindanao. They were housed in the 6th ID barracks.

Thereafter, JCI Cotabato members had photo ops and a chance to meet the U.S. Navy Capt. Robert V. Gusentine, Commander of Joint Special Operations Task Force Philippine.
