A Tour with our Unsung Heroes

"I pledge allegiance to the flag and my heart to the soldier who defends it"

On one Sunday afternoon, with the prodding of a dearest friend An, I dragged myself out of bed and joined her to visit the 37th Infantry Battalion at Nituan, Parang, Maguindanao. There I met the Battalion Commander and some of his officers whose names I will always remember.

The only reason why I spent time in joining her was the idea of gun and fun firing. Having a gun of my own and learning to use it was always my passion. With the kindness and goodness of heart of the battalion commander, he gave me the very rare opportunity to experience it. Everything was all set for us, the guns, the firing range, the food they have prepared for us, and not to mention the great soldiers who made fun firing possible. I was way too excited that I wasn't able to have a good taste of the food. With the kind assistance of one of the troops who patiently taught me gun handling and gun safety, I decided I was ready to do it. I fearfully grabbed the gun and pulled the trigger. Whether I hit or missed the target, there is a sense of fulfillment of my desire. It was nicely relaxing and physically satisfying. But there is more to life than that. Ever since I set foot on their headquarters, I come to realize what's behind the boots and the guns. Has anyone ever thought deeply about what these soldier are going through everyday?

As I take a short tour on their camp, accompanied by their kind and witty battalion commander, I have seen the life that they are living. If I lived to tell about the them, I must say that they live in an uncomfortable and unglamorous life like most civilian do. Soldier spent a lot of their time sitting in camps waiting for orders. There lives when not fighting were mostly spent on trainings and drills on battle techniques and strategies. The rest of their time was trying to overcome boredom. They spent their time in making meals, doing laundry and writing articles for their official newsletter  "Conqueror". Playing basketball and singing along to a music video were just one of the things that helped to relieve the boredom. Although their lives maybe easy, they are always up on their toes waiting for the lawless elements. It surprised me how varied and interesting soldier life can be. Their life is challenging and can also be rewarding.

So remember that there is a soldier out there that wishes they could be appreciated and admired for their sacrifice. They sacrifice themselves for our safety and freedom. I give praise to these unnoticed heroes of war. Glad that such heroes have lived. GOD BLESS ALL OF OUR TROOPS!

***sharing with you this article i have written in "Conqueror", the official newsletter of 37th IB, Philippine Army, August 16-31, 2010 issue.

Butterfly Effect

There was one night at about 10:15pm, I saw a butterfly on our ceiling. I immediately grabbed my camera and took a picture of it. I love taking pictures as much as I love butterflies because every time I look at butterflies it makes me smile. Butterflies are lovely. They are beautiful. So I keep staring at it smiling. =) I remember the old folks belief that when butterflies enter your house it means financial luck or anything that has something to do with money that you will soon receive. So, if that is the case, I think I should throw my worries away, financially. =)

Hugs and kisses! =)

Whimsical Yet Elegant

Blogthings to Me:

You Are Whimsical Yet Elegant

You definitely have your own personal style, and you're one of the few people who can pull of "quirky" without being weird.

You are uniquely chic, and others admire your taste. You always seem to know what's going to be in fashion next.

You are creative and even a bit zany. You are willing to take risks, and your risks always seem to work out.

You have a keen sense of intuition. You seem to always know how much you can push boundaries and limits.

Heavenly Place

It is so disappointing how irresponsible people can be. i happen to pass by at a certain area here in Cotabato and i noticed a post that says "bawal ang tumapon ng basura dito. maging responsableng mamamayan". but mountains of garbage spreading all over where the post was placed.. i thought to myself, the nerve these people throw their garbage there. maybe they just do not understand the statement written in tagalog haha..hey people wake up and clean your sweet stinky place! Be responsible...

I am very very disappointed..this is one problem that needs to be resolved (asap) here in my so-called "beautiful hometown".calling all the concerned local officials  =)

But on the contrary, Cotabato is still a good place to live. it may not have a good ambiance but the foods are great, especially the crabs! And i am starting to crave for it now, sigh!  =)

Leaving Yesterday Behind Lyrics

This is in relation to my previous post about love. i like to share to you this song that inspires me a lot and helps me move on with my life. it reminds me to always move forward and leave the memories behind...

Since you left me, I never really tried
To put my life to where it should belong
And I've always let the past gone by
I'm realizing that it could be wrong

Refrain:
But now I fin'lly knew
I had to let it go
To make way for a brighter tomorrow

Chorus:
So now I'm leavin' yesterday behind
And fin'lly I've made up my mind
So let the mem'ries stay away
And think about today
I'm leavin' yesterday behind
'Cause now I'll try to live my life once more
The way I did before

Since I know that I never will forget
The memories that made my yesterday
I will try not to let it interfere
The choices I will make along the way

Refrain:
'Cause I'm not livin' in a world of fantasy
I'm here now in the world of reality

Chorus:
So now I'm leavin' yesterday behind
And fin'lly I've made up my mind
So let the mem'ries stay away
And think about today
I'm leavin' yesterday behind
'Cause now I'll try to live my life once more
The way I did before

So now I'm leavin' yesterday behind
And fin'lly I've made up my mind
So let the mem'ries stay away
And think about today
I'm leavin' yesterday behind
'Cause now I'll try to live my life once more
Just the way I did before

C'est la vie! =)

ERAP: Up Close and Personal

Got to meet personally the controversial former president of the Philippines, Joseph "Erap" Ejercito Estrada in the Mindanao Area Conference held in General Santos City last September 5, 2009. He was one of the speakers invited. Many Filipinos have hated him for participating in illegal activities and for doing bad things, being a gambler and a notorious playboy. But there are still millions of Filipino people loves him for being so generous and kind.

He was accused of plunder and perjury but a lot of those who are in the position are also doing the same. Let us not forget that he has also done something good, helped the poor Filipinos. I believe that Erap has a good heart despite the criminal acts that he was accused of. Just my personal views.

Meeting Atty. Adel Tamano Again

For the second time around I got to chit chat with the person I really admire the most in the world of politics and showbiz., Atty. Adel Tamano. This happened in one of the JCI events, the Mindanao Area Conference held in General Santos City last September 5, 2009 at Tierra Montana Hotel.

The first meeting with him was also in one of the JCI events held in Cotabato City and I hope there will be third and another meeting. So glad that our JCI local president that time was planning to invite him as our speaker in 2010's Area Council Meeting under the leadership of then JCI local president JCI Member Malot. Unfortunately, the idea of having the Area Council Meeting/Regional Council Meeting last year in Cotabato did not happen..(*winks)

Despedida de Soltera

My friend Doc Anna bid farewell to the single life, all her close relatives and friends gathered to celebrate her despedida de soltera. as part of the program, everyone shared their views and advices on married life. i listened very well.they were talking about respect, loving each other, endearment, making it up after the fight, and even orgasms..they forgot to mention that TRUST is the most important  thing to a successful relationship. for without it, neither can we find love. what is love, without trust? im saying this because ive been in a deceitful relationship many times. but that doesn't stop me from trusting and giving anyone a chance to prove their worth. and everyone deserves a second chance, ryt? so while there at the party, i wondered when will i have my own despedida de soltera? do i have to be pressured by people around me? i am sick and tired of answering their question, "calay, when will you get married?". that will come in God's time.why cant they just wait for an invitation?=)

Hugs and Kisses!

Crab Session

I love to eat. I love to eat crabs. Crabs with coconut milk is one of my favorite dishes and id go gaga over it when served. My friend Willa first introduced me to this recipe during our college of law days. it has become my favorite since then. she would always cook for me everytime i missed it. so we called it crab session. She even gave the recipe but unfortunately lost it and haven't tried cooking it till now. Thank goodness, here comes Joy who knows the recipe too. so i would be able to learn the recipe now without bothering Willa who is in Dubai now suffering from love problem with a guy she met few years ago. i have no passion for cooking but i'm trying hard to learn it in the name of crabs, lol! My mom would abstain from eating it for health reasons. But don't you know that according to a health writer Katie Chevaux there are 5 health benefits of crabs, to wit:

1. Heart Health Problems - Fish and seafoods (Crabs) are rich in heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids and eating fish and seafoods are linked to lower rates of heart disease.
2. Contaminants A Concern - King crab legs are listed as low in contaminants and safe to eat more than 4 times per month.
3. Antioxidant Support- Crabs are rich in a nutrients that plays an important role in protecting our bodies from oxidative damage. that nutrient is called selenium.
4. Natural Sodium - Crab is one of the few foods that are high in sodium in their natural state.
5. Basic Nutrition Points - crabs have healthy levels of protein and many vitamins and minerals.Source:www.livestrong.com/article

So no worries! Just eat in moderation, ayt! =)
