MBLT-7 Distribution of Books

The distribution of books was one of the joint-project of Marine Battalion Landing Team-7 and JCI Cotabato during my presidency in 2011 together with Rotary Club of Cotabato City - South and Notre Dame Religious of Virgin Mary- College of Cotabato (NDRVM). This activity was held at Bucana, Mother Barangay Kalanganan, Cotabato City last March 9, 2011,  with Datu Ayunan National High School as our recipient.

In the picture above, Lt Col. Doroteo Jose M. Jalandoni, PN (M) (GSC), commanding officer of MBLT-7, turns-over the books to school principal Nanang A. Mangatong, Al-Hadja.

Below is a picture of me delivering my speech. Lesson learned, do not attend any event unprepared. There was nothing in the program that I should deliver a speech. I did very well, though. =)

The Lawyer I Aspire To Be

Studying law was the last thing on my mind when I graduated from college, despite the fact that the legal profession is the most prestigious and glamorous profession in the Philippines. I must admit that I have negative notions regarding lawyers. The way I perceive them it seems to me that the prestige of being a lawyer comes with a great responsibility to the point that other lawyers overlook upon, which then resulted to fraud. Until my father convinced me to take up law, he gave me the inspiration to be different and be of service to our people by not doing fraudulent acts. I decided to enroll at Notre Dame University College of Law in year 2000 just to satisfy my father's desire to have a lawyer in the family. Eventually, I started to love the legal profession and be responsible in every acts I do.

Being a law student was never been an easy task for me. This simply means days of hardships and sacrifices, but since I begin to appreciate legal profession, little by little, it became a big challenge for me. I learn to breathe and live a life of an aspiring lawyer. It is indeed striking to think how I could contribute things for a good cause to our legal profession, it became more challenging each day I learn more about it. As idealistic as I am, I believe that I could be a positive contributor in this profession by providing quality, ethical, accessible and cost-effective legal service to my fellow men. By serving justice to them especially to those who does not believe in the justice system of our country. I would like to correct and gain public trust by being a model to the younger aspirants and be a challenge to those who are in the legal profession. Though it is inevitable nowadays that some lawyers are doing unethical services which instead giving honor to our profession, causes disgrace to other lawyers and future lawyers. Through us, the new breed of lawyers (Godwilling), I aspire to be the principled and noble lawyer that I could be, inshaallah

Green is the Color of Love: Plant a Tree, Save a Soul

Junior Chamber International - Philippines had a nationwide tree planting activity in time to celebrate the love month last February 25, 2011. This is to promote environmental awareness and create positive change in the society, help create aware on issues about the environment such as illegal logging of trees that results in ecological disasters like landslides and floods. First time in the Philippines that it was held simultaneously. This was our action in preserving our mother earth and prevent ecological disasters happening in our country.

Why the title "Green is the color of Love"? Planting a Tree is the best way to celebrate the love month by expressing one's love for the environment by putting into action a solution. By planting a single tree, the next generation's souls can be saved. And why on February 25? It is a historical day for us Filipinos. It is a day we celebrate independence from dictatorship. By doing the tree planting event on the 25th, it is a way of expressing our cry of independence from ecological disasters. The tree planting event is a day to signify freedom, a new start to let people be free from worries of tragedies. (source:  Junior Chamber International - Philippines)

In our local chapter, JCI Cotabato, we tapped the Metro Cotabato Water District (MCWD) to partner with us in the said activity not just in celebration of the love month but also of the 25th anniversary of the EDSA I revolution. We have also asked local authorities to let us adopt one or two hectares of the Dimapatoy watersheds, where we held our tree planting activity, as our site for future tree planting.

A press conference was held thereafter. ABS-CBN Central Mindanao, DXMY RMN Cotabato, Ali Macabalang of Manila Bulletin and other members of the press were invited. MCWD General Manager Atty. Delfin Hilario was also invited as our guest speaker since his expertise and knowledge on the subject would be a big help to our media audience in educating them further.

Earth Hour 2012

Let us support once again the annual environmental event - the Earth Hour. Let's do it again. Switch your lights off on March 31, 2012 for an hour from 8:30-9:30 in the evening. It is only an hour of sacrifice to save our planet, or you may go beyond that hour to show our lasting support for climate change action.  Let us all unite to protect our mother earth. Get involved!

Alibaba

I love to eat and dine. There are lots of nice and cozy resto in Cotabato City. And one them is the Alibaba Resto, which is the only Arab resto in town located at Alnor Complex. They offer arabian food which i must admit is really delicious but only hard to remember because of its arabic names. One of my favorite foods they serve is the Ferakh  Ma'luba (I literally wrote it down so i won't forget) which is a whole deep fried chicken marinated with special herbs and spices topped on Roz Masrey (rice) and served with potato fries and chilly sauce. Ferakh Ma'luba is good for two or three person at a very affordable price.

The food I eat here is not complete without my all-time favorite Shay Susu, a brisk tea with milk. Alibaba also serve Marhaba Tea as a welcome tea served for free made from black tea leaves served hot while waiting. It is a must try!

Message of 2010 NP during the 61st JCI-Cotabato Induction

El Presidentes (2009,2011 & 2010)
I want to share the message of 2010 National President of JCI Philippines JCI Sen. Manuel Van A. Torrevillas during our 61st Induction and Turnover ceremonies with JCI Mem. Malot Juliano as our incoming president. This may be a decade late, but it is still worth sharing, to wit:

"For me it is a great privilege to greet the officers and members of JCI Cotabato on the occasion of your 61stInduction and Turnover Ceremonies.

You are the face of development - vibrant, engaged, tolerant, dynamic. JCI Philippines thrives in this part of the world because you thrive. You have brought so much. You are a permanent part of JCI's development.

The supreme reality of our time is the indivisibility of local organizations and our common vulnerability as an organization. JCI Philippines will walk the road together with JCI Cotabato because if we are to set to achieve something great, we shall have to begin with our chapters. A strong and united JCI Philippines rests firmly on strong local organizations.

I ask you to lead JCI Cotabato and join me as we begin to chart a bold future guided by the theme, "2010 BLAST (Believing and Living Up to JCI Activities, Systems and Trainings).

Our blueprint for change will be our full commitment and suppoer to JCI's advocacies, trainings and programs. In 2010, we will make it our reality, our priority and the foundation of our plans to continue to be the leading network of young active citizens in this part of the world. Let this vision be our greatest strength.

I congratulate Outgoing President Norianne Lou S. Frondoza for the exemplary leadership and high level of commitment her team has demonstrated in 2009. To Incoming President Ma. Lourdes Romelli D. Juliano, carry on and never forfeit your inalienable right to growth.

Remember: There are no such things as limits to your growth because there are no limits on your capacity for intelligence, imagination and wonder."

-JCI Senator Manuel Van A. Torrevillas
2010 National President

I hope this inspired my readers. =)
